Xavi Bird | Freelance Broadcast Journalist
I am an award-winning freelance broadcast journalist with experience in presenting, producing, writing and editing pieces for Radio, TV, Digital and Podcasts. I regularly work with the BBC Radio London Sport team, both as a producer and reporter, and also as the sport producer for The Today Programme on BBC Radio 4. As well as this, I work with Championship Football Club Ipswich Town as the producer of their Official Club Podcast.
I have produced and contributed segments and interviews for programmes including The World at One and The World Tonight on BBC Radio 4, as well as Newshour on BBC World Service. I have presented and created pieces which have appeared on BBC Radio London, BBC Radio Orkney, BBC Radio Scotland, and KSRO in Santa Rosa.
My keen interest in sport has led to me to work in the various roles in which I currently occupy. I have worked on-site at international sporting events such as the Wimbledon Tennis Championships, the Open Golf Championship, the Grand National, the Rugby League World Cup, the London Marathon and the Women’s FA Cup Final, as well as regularly working at Premier League and English Football League matches.
My broad range of skills and interests means I have covered stories across genres including local and global politics, current affairs, entertainment, food and more. I was published as the first entry in BBC Radio 4 PM‘s book Letters From Lockdown, an anthology series of stories from 2020’s lockdown. I graduated with distinction in MA Broadcast Journalism at City University in 2021 and won a BJTC Award for a documentary I made on living with anosmia.
